I am delighted to present the premiere of my new monthly series, Stories From the Barber Chair at The Room Next Door, a monthly gathering featuring the finest spoken word and acoustic musical performances in town at the supercozy Room Next Door (Powered by Restaurant Room) in Den Haag's most quaint square in the charming Zeeheldenkwartier neighborhood just steps from the Peace Palace.
In the first edition, I'll recount some of the most personal stories from my barber chair as told to me by my customers who reveal poignant, moving and sometimes amusing anecdotes about their lives, loves, labors and longings.
I will also be joined by two very special guest storytellers, Jugal Bhinde (India) and Raffi Feghali (Lebanon) to round out the evening with their unique styles of storytelling (see bios below).
Come for the stories and stay for the nibbles as you will be delighted by the bespoke menu I've prepared featuring both savory and sweet tidbits alongside a diverse range of hot, cold, alcoholic and booze-free beverages.
The first edition of Stories From The Barber Chair at The Room Next Door is free to attend but places are limited to the first 36 guests.*
Please join me on Saturday evening 30 November at 7:30 p.m. for this inaugural event and watch this space for information about upcoming events. Click the RESERVE NOW button below and grab your place. Coming with friends? You'll need separate reservations for each person.
Looking forward to seeing you Next Door!

ABOUT THE STORYTELLERS
Jugal Bhinde is a storyteller from India with a background in journalism and human rights. Before moving to The Netherlands, Jugal worked as a conflict reporter in Kashmir, Jordan, and the West Bank. He believes there are several stories about people that get lost in mainstream media, and rather than listening to people in positions of power, it is the subjugated, discriminated against, and victims of violence who deserve a platform before anyone else. Jugal aims to bring these stories on stage, and act as a vessel for the voiceless.
Raffi Feghali is a Lebanese theater maker, peacebuilding consultant, and trainer based between Amsterdam and Beirut. Combining improvisational theater and storytelling rooted in the “hakawati” tradition, his creative work spans performing, directing, writing, music, and sound design. As a peacebuilder, Raffi employs arts-based methods like Theater of the Oppressed, and expressive arts to facilitate conflict analysis, transformation, and dialogue. A sought-after trainer and coach, he has lectured at universities worldwide, contributing his expertise in the intersection of arts and conflict transformation.
Richard Morris is an American-born barber, writer, singer and composer. In 2018, he left his 26-year career as a teacher to found Holland's first and only after-hours barbershop––The Night Barber––with locations in The Hague and Amsterdam. In the 1980s, Morris was the frontman of the L.A. new wave band, Café Society. Moving to the EU in 1996, Morris has lived in Spain, England and, since 2010, in the Netherlands. His debut novel Adam Driver and Million Dollar Haircut was released in 2024 and a one-man musical of the same name debuted the same year. Morris is a father of five.
